Of course it’s a song we’ve all heard before, but the CBC have confirmed that talks are ongoing between François Dumontier (NASCAR organizer in Montreal) and Bernie Ecclestone, and that they in fact met on Tuesday to talk some more about putting Canada back on the F1 map where it belongs.
It’s possible this radical shift back from the Bizarro-world of a GP calendar without a scheduled stop in Montreal may happen as soon as 2010. No papers were signed, but Quebec’s Provincial Finance Minister Raymond Bachand confirmed that the Quebec and federal governments are prepared to contribute $5 million to help bring Formula One back to Montreal.
We should know in less than a week if these efforts have been successful, as the 2010 calendar is scheduled to be unveiled on Wednesday, June 25th. Stay tuned for more information as we have it.
