2010 VW Golf: Canadian Pricing

Author:

VW Golf 6The Rabbit is dead. Long live the Golf. The MkVI (sixth-generation) is finally here in Canada and we’re even getting the diesel engine! Yes, it’s the same engine you could find in the MkV Jetta, but now you can have it in the more compact Golf package. The previous generation Golf (a.k.a. Rabbit) wasn’t available with the 2.0TDI engine, so it’s been six years since Canadians could buy a diesel Golf. The rest of the line-up carries over the 170hp 2.5L five-cylinder.

Also refreshed are the Golf Wagon (formerly Jetta Wagon) and the GTI. Unfortunately, Canadians won’t be getting the more powerful 210hp GTI engine the Europeans get. Instead, we get the carryover engine from the last few years with 200hp.

Ok, that’s enough ranting and raving about engines, what about the other models? And how do the prices stack up?

Volkswagen’s 2010 New Golf Family Canadian Pricing Announced

Ajax, ON / Wolfsburg, Germany ––– At a meeting in Germany with its Canadian Dealers today, Volkswagen Canada announced pricing for the new Golf, the 2009 World Car of the Year, and its Family of vehicles. Starting at $20,175, the new 2010 Golf offers Canadian consumers the opportunity to experience German engineering at an affordable price.

All key body elements are redesigned, and the sixth generation Golf has a sportier and more distinctive image. In front, the new car adopts the radiator grille of the first generation Golf that is horizontally aligned between the headlights. The rear is characterized by a predominance of horizontal lines. The taillights – now very wide – are marked among other things by an unmistakably unique night design.

Its class-leading interior is also newly designed, especially in the cockpit area. The appearance and layout of the materials, including details such as brushed chrome accents and sporty round instrument cluster with white illumination are derived directly from the Passat CC, and well- thought ergonomic properties with controls that are easier to use all contribute to a highly functional and pleasant experience. The new Golf also has first-class acoustic properties using special sound-damping film in the windshield, thicker side windows in the front, and newly shaped outside mirrors to reduce driving noise, all at a retail price that is slightly higher than the fifth-generation 2009 Rabbit that it replaces.

The new 2010 Golf represents the sixth generation of one of the world’s most popular vehicles ever. Since its introduction in Europe in 1974 when the Golf invented the hatchback class, over 26 million units have been sold worldwide, making it Volkswagen’s best-selling vehicle overall.

The new 2010 Golf will be available in two body styles, either as a 3-door or optionally as a 5- door. Customers can choose either with a standard 2.5 litre 170 HP 5-cylinder gasoline engine, or the available award-winning 2.0 litre 140 HP TDI Clean Diesel motor in the 5-door model that consumes only 4.6 l/100 km/h on the highway when mated to a 6-speed DSG automatic transmission1.

Joining the new Golf Family is the all-new 2010 Golf Wagon, starting at $22,675. Also available with either a standard 2.5 litre 170 HP 5-cylinder gasoline engine or with the optional fuel-efficient 2.0 litre 140 HP TDI Clean Diesel engine, the new 2010 Golf Wagon offers many of the same sporty amenities as the new 2010 Golf, including its clean exterior styling, plus an impressive 1.89 cubic metres of cargo space when the 60/40 split rear seats are folded. As with the new 2010 Golf, the new 2010 Golf Wagon TDI Clean Diesel achieves the same frugal 4.6 l/100 km/h on the highway when mated to the 6-speed DSG automatic transmission.

Completing the new Golf Family is the new 2010 Golf GTI. The iconic “Pocket Rocket” comes to Canada in its sixth generation at a price starting at $28,675 in a 3-door body style. Powered by a 2.0 litre 200 HP TSI direct fuel-injection engine that can accelerate it from 0-100 km/h in 6.9 seconds with an available 6-speed DSG automatic, the new 2010 Golf GTI features standard equipment such as 17” alloy wheels, classic “Jacky” cloth Sport seats, Bi-Xenon headlights with Adaptive Front light System (AFS), Bluetooth® Mobile Phone Connectivity, Premium 8 touch- screen radio with SIRIUS® satellite radio, lowered Sport Suspension, and a new electronic transverse differential lock system (XDS). Technology fans can customize their 2010 Golf GTI with an optional satellite navigation system and 30 Gb hard drive with a Media Device Interface (MDI) and iPod® connectivity powered by a 300-watt Dynaudio digital sound package. In keeping with its Golf Family heritage, the new 2010 Golf GTI is also available as a 5-door.
