In what seems to be a theme, Toyota is halting sales of the popular Lexus GX 460 due to what Consumer Reports deems a Don’t Buy: Safety Risk. This isn’t a rating they bestow lightly, or often.

According to Consumer Reports’ testing, the 2010 GX 460 is extremely susceptible to rollovers due to oversteer that occurs when a driver lifts off the throttle whilst powering through a high-speed turn. Although the GX 460 has electronic stability control, apparently the issue is that the ESC does not engage in time to stop this problem from occurring.
Toyota has issued a statement earlier this evening saying that they are halting sales and will be conducting further testing of their own to make this vehicle as safe as it can be. They have also said that they will be happy to address the concerns of anyone who currently owns a GX 460, and may provide loaner vehicles to them until they are able to resolve the problem with their GXs.
