F1 Singapore GP: Hamilton Boosted To Victory

MOTOR-RACING/PRIXGet it? Boosted? Because Hamilton’s McLaren uses KERS? Knee-slapping, I know.

Winning from the pole position by a triumphant 9.634 second margin over Toyota’s Timo Glock and 16.624 seconds over Renault’s Fernando Alonso, Lewis Hamilton won for the second time this season and is now in 6th place in this season’s Driver Standings. Speaking of Driver Standings, let’s take a look at how Button, Barichello, and Vettel are standing now that the night-race dust has settled over the Pacific island city-state.

Button managed to squeek out a 5th place finish in Singapore, one spot better than teammate, and winner last week at the Italian GP, Rubens Barichello. This means that Button’s lead in the Driver Standings is now a dominating 15 points over Rubens with just 3 races remaining. Brawn is therefore dominating the Team Standings by 42.5 points over Red Bull Racing.

The mid-season team-swapping Giancarlo Fisichella finished second-to-last among race finishers, just eking out Vitantanio Liuzzi for 13th. But the truly impressive and surprising result belonged to Toyota’s Glock, who took his first podium finish of the season. Maybe this Toyota-branded success will finally convince the Lexus arm to release the fucking LF-A already. I apologize for the profanity, I’m just getting tired of waiting.

Non-finishers included Mark Webber, Adrian Sutil, Nick Hiedfeld, Romain Grosjean, Sebastian Buemi, and Alguersuari Jaime.

Overall, it was decidedly less exciting than last year’s Singapore GP. I guess I’m already missing Flavio. Never thought I’d say that.
