Vancouver Getting Nissan LEAF Ahead of Official Launch

Author:

nissan-leaf-1-450x299Prior to Nissan’s all-electric LEAF, the only ‘green’ car offered by Nissan was the Altima hybrid, which pails in comparison to the Camry hybrid and new Fusion hybrid. Nissan is hoping that the LEAF will boost its green profile.

Nissan has selected five cities to exclusively sell the LEAF to before its official 2012 mass production launch and, perhaps unsurprisingly, Vancouver has been selected as one of those cities. As a result, Vancouver will be the first Canadian city to experience the zero emissions vehicle.

According to Vancouver Mayor Greg Robertson, their goal is to have Vancouver become “the world’s greenest city” by 2020. The LEAF’s early arrival will help them boost their claim. Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has also declared his desire to have the province become a leader on the world stage for being green by offering sizable rebates off electric cars like the Chevy Volt.

Score one for Vancouver in the greenest place battle.
