According to the Wall Street Journal, rumours of the impending death of the Fiat/Chrysler merger have been greatly exaggerated.

Or, at the very least, they’ve been somewhat premature. Earlier today, at a shareholder’s meeting for UBS AG, board member Marchionne said “There is not a single reason why Fiat can’t close [this deal] by April 30.”

No specifics have been given as to Marchionne’s sudden change in opinion; however, CAW President Ken Lewenza’s statement a couple hours ago that “There’s no question that we need the Fiat deal, there’s no question that we need the partnership,” may shed some light on the subject.

To-may-to, to-mah-to, po-tay-to, po-tah-to. Only 15 more days remain before we must learn whether or not they’ve called the whole thing off.
