Picture of the Day: Ford Fiesta Widebody (Rally Cross)

Have you ever wanted to take a car that had no business being fast and making it ludicrously so? Some manufacturers have and that’s why vehicles like the Dodge Caravan Turbo, Chevy Cobalt SS, Volvo V70R, and now, the Ford Fiesta Rally Cross. Ok, maybe not all of those vehicles are in the same category because they’re not all meant for the street. But still, the Fiesta Rally Cross looks like the 2010 Fiesta we’ll see in Canada, but 100 times cooler. Which isn’t easy.

Backing up the looks department is some serious hardware in the form of a 550 hp 2.0L Duratec 4-cylinder resulting in 0-96 kph in 2.8 seconds. Weight? Only 2600 lbs. Kind of reminds me of a 21st century version of the Ford RS200 Evolution that we had as yesterday’s Deal of the Day.

Today’s picture was taken at the European Rally Cross stage at Lydden Hill, UK. The man behind the wheel is either Andreas Erikkson or Markus Gronholm, I can’t tell. And did I mention that the Ford Fiesta Rally Cross runs on E85?
