Following the theory that if you want something done right, you should probably do it yourself, Petter Solberg apparently got sick of waiting for the right opportunity and instead has formed his own team.
Unsurprisingly, Solberg has brought on Phil Mills as his codriver. And just what will they be driving? It’s a 2006-spec Citroen Xsara, which they’ll waste no time in getting their party started with Rally Norway’s Super Special Stage this coming Thursday, the 12th of February. Said Petter, “I have been working flat out, and I’m really proud to the present my new team today. I have a lot of brilliant people around me, and they have all been working 24hrs shifts for me the past weeks. Without them and my sponsors, this would not have been possible.”
The remainder of the team is being filled out by a cast of familiar names including former SWRT logistics manager Ken Reese as team boss, Peugeot’s Francois Xavier Demaison as chief engineer (who will bring with him mechanics Stéphane Fonta, Jérôme Pierre, and Jean-Philippe Graby), former SWRT mechanic Tore Dahl, and even former SWRT catering and hospitality chief Lorraine Glaister. Solberg’s wife Pernilla has also been heavily involved with the launch of the team, saying at their press conference,”I promise you Petter did not just sit down and complain or feel sorry for himself. He was on the phone at once, talking to people all over Europe and he was not discouraged in anyway by the thought of trying to make meetings and deals happen right in the middle of the Christmas and New Year holiday period.”
Backed by massive Scandinavian boating industry giant Johs Lunde Gruppen as their title sponsor, the PSRT looks forward to competing in all remaining 11 events in the WRC’s 2009 calendar.
